Create noise-free fireworks to protect our pets
The Issue
I am heartbroken as I write this petition. Last night, someone set off loud fireworks, and the result was devastating for a local resident. Sandie a beloved dog, a gentle soul who was already petrified of the constant loud bangs, was so stressed that she began bleeding out. She did not survive. I can't express the devastation and anger I feel, knowing that this pet suffered such a horrific death because of someone else's celebrations.
My experience is not unique. Many pet owners dread fireworks due to the fear and anxiety they cause our animals. Dogs, with their acute hearing, are particularly affected. A majority of pets experience distress during fireworks; the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) notes increased reports of pet anxiety and fear at these times. It's not just pets—veterans with PTSD, children with sensory sensitivities, and the elderly also suffer when fireworks explode in their neighborhoods.
We are at a point where technology can offer us solutions in the form of silent or noise-reduced fireworks. These alternatives maintain the visual spectacle that many enjoy and celebrate but eliminate the harmful noise. Italy, for example, has already implemented legislation encouraging the use of silent fireworks. Their experiences prove that it is both possible and effective.
I urge local councils, legislators, and event organizers to adopt this humane and considerate approach by transitioning to noise-free fireworks. Let's enjoy our celebrations without the unnecessary harm to our pets and vulnerable members of our community.
Join me in calling for a shift towards noise-free fireworks to protect our pets and others who suffer from the loud booms. Please sign this petition to make a change that can save lives and prevent unnecessary suffering.
In memory of Sandie a much loved member of a family taken too soon ❤️
