Create Hannah's Law for public safety
The Issue
💜 Introducing Hannah’s Law 💜
🚨 It’s time for real transparency and real safety. My name is Hannah Kendrick, and I am from Springfield, MO. In 2007, a horrific and life-altering event changed my life forever. While I was asleep, my husband poured gasoline on me and set me on fire, with our three children asleep in the home. I suffered burns on 67% of my body. It's been a long and difficult road to recovery. Now, my ex-husband, Antonio Draper, is about to be released from prison, which brings a whole new level of stress and fear for me and my family.
💜 Because of this terrifying personal experience, I am inspired to take action not just for myself, but for everyone who deserves to live with peace of mind about their safety. I am calling for the creation of Hannah’s Law, a federal mandate that would require any individual with a proven history of violent crime to be listed on a national public registry, similar to the sex offender registry.
💜 We have the right to know who we are living next to. We have the right to protect our children, our families, and ourselves from those with a documented past of violence. The introduction of this registry would be a significant step in ensuring that those with histories of violent crimes are easily identifiable by the public, thus providing a crucial layer of safety and awareness.
Statistics reveal that recidivism rates among violent offenders are alarmingly high. A 2018 study from the Bureau of Justice Statistics showed that 53% of violent offenders are rearrested within three years of release. With numbers like these, and with personal experiences such as mine, it's more important than ever to provide communities with transparent access to potentially dangerous individuals in their neighborhoods.
💜 Supporting Hannah’s Law means you support a community-oriented approach to crime prevention. It offers peace of mind to families like mine, who live every day with the shadow of past violence. We must demand accountability and provide resources for communities to better protect themselves.
Join me in this vital cause. Let's push for the introduction of Hannah's Law for the safety of all. Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to consider this necessary step towards a safer future for everyone in our nation.
