The Issue

For years, myself and fellow employees in the Neptune Beach town center have faced the frustrating and unfair burden of high parking fees. This situation has only worsened with the city's recent decision to raise the cost further, making it feel like a slap in the face to those of us who spend our days contributing to the local economy and serving this community. Working in Neptune Beach's vibrant town center is rewarding, but the lack of affordable parking has placed unnecessary strain on our daily lives and finances. Many employees, including myself, are left with little choice but to allocate a significant portion of our hard-earned wages to parking fees. This not only affects our financial well-being but also impacts our overall job satisfaction and morale. We believe it's time for a change. We ask the Neptune Beach city council to implement a solution that acknowledges and values the efforts of its working residents. A viable and fair solution is to establish a free parking program for town center employees. We propose the introduction of a sticker or decal system, which authorized employees would display in their vehicles to gain access to designated free parking areas. This system would help us tremendously by removing the financial burden of parking fees, allowing us to focus on our work and contribute positively to the community. Creating a free parking opportunity for us is not just a benefit; it’s a recognition of the dedication that the Neptune Beach town center employees bring to this area. We are committed to serving this community, and easing our parking woes is a step towards appreciating that commitment. By signing this petition, you are standing with us in advocating for a more supportive working environment in Neptune Beach. Join us in calling upon the city council to implement this change, acknowledging the vital role that we, as employees, play in sustaining the local economy. Please sign and share this petition, and help us bring about a fair and equitable solution for all town center employees.

Thank you for reaching out. I am aware of the petition and have been in contact with the originator, Reilee Meyer. We plan to meet soon. Unfortunately Ms. Meyer has had to reschedule. I’m looking forward to meeting with her. I have also been in touch with our local merchants/employers with immediate solutions to the employee parking problem. I have offered both a free option for parking as well as a discounted alternative that is closer to where the employees work. I will continue to work with our local business owners to help improve the situation for their employees. Our next public meeting is on January 5, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. We will be discussing public parking during that meeting and we have reached out to our sister city of Atlantic Beach and have invited them to be a part of the conversation on that evening, as they also have several businesses which may be affected. Sincerely, Cori Bylund
