The Issue

I am a mother to a vivacious 3-year-old son, who navigates life with Autism. He is filled with boundless energy and his laughter is contagious, especially when he's exploring outdoors. However, his love for adventure often sees him wandering off, oblivious to the potential hazards around him. As a parent, it is a constant worry - the fear of his harmless fun inadvertently leading him onto unsafe pathways. His well-being and safety are my utmost priorities, and I am certain other parents of children with disabilities share the same concerns.

In line with this, it is vital that our community unites to advocate for parks specifically designed and suitably fenced for children with disabilities. The aim is to create a space for our youngsters to flourish, and foster their love for nature under the protective wings of safety.

According to a study by the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD), inclusive play spaces foster the socialization, health, and development of children with disabilities. Fencing in these parks would add another layer of safety, especially for children who may not fully comprehend the dangers of straying away from play areas.

Echoing the sentiments of many parents in the same situation, this petition seeks your support to reinforce our case to the local council. Together, let's create secured, inclusive parks where our children can play, explore, and be themselves, without the constant shadow of worry looming over them. Your signature can take us one step closer to seeing this essential project through. Please, sign and share.
