The Issue

The joy of collecting Pokémon cards has always been a passionate hobby for many. However, at the North Canton/Applegrove and Fulton Meijer stores, this hobby has turned into a chaotic system in securing product. A mad dash at 5am where 2 lines form and groups fight over which one is right. A chair system starting at midnight that has now turned into a non-overnight parking with allowing a line to form at 5am. This, accompanied by a group who has created a "number system" of their own without Meijer involvement.

It is always the same group of individuals up front at both Meijer, getting first dibs at premium products with an unfair advantage. For individuals with full-time jobs or family obligations, the current system is far from fair. Many cannot wait in line for hours, wait overnight, or be out at twilight hrs.  These collectors, children, and casual enthusiasts are often left with scraps. This undermines the genuine spirit of collecting and has left many unable to partake in what was once a joyful and inclusive activity.

Across the country, reports suggest that nearly 25% of Pokémon card sales are absorbed by resellers, causing scarcity for genuine collectors. In light of this, it's evident that change is imperative to restore fairness and accessibility.

We propose implementing a customer-friendly policy that allows each individual, particularly at Meijer stores, to partake in a lottery type of system with a limited number of premium items (UPC,SPC & other special items) per person. This restriction will curb mass purchases by resellers and provide more opportunities for local families, children, and enthusiasts.

Stores could adopt a lottery system or online reservation for premium products such as UPCs or SPCs when there is a limited number. Avon Meijer currently does this and people are a lot happier. These systems have been successful in other retail settings to maintain order and fairness.

By signing this petition, you will not only help fellow collectors regain fair access to Pokémon products but also ensure that the next generation can enjoy the same thrills and joys of collecting Pokémon cards. Together, a collective voice can lead to change and revive the true spirit of this beloved hobby. Please support our cause by signing this petition.
