Create Equity Fund: a fresh approach to diversity in the arts

Currently just 2.6% of regular arts funding goes to Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) run organisations. We believe that it is right and proper that this be increased to better reflect the size of BAME communities (14% of the UK's population). We are asking arts funders to commit to 7% by 2021.
I believe that a £25m BAME-led investment fund is the quickest and most cost-effective solution to this problem. The fund would invest in BAME entrepreneurs and artists, producing financial returns which could then be reinvested in future BAME entrepreneurial and creative talent.
I am asking you to support a pragmatic solution to this long-standing problem, one which takes into account the need to continue to fund the major arts institutions, the need to improve diversity in the arts and the need - post COVID - to create new businesses and jobs for the future.
This solution is practical and within arts funders’ power to implement. It will deliver far better results than current strategies, will enable enduring change and will deliver a lasting and powerful impact. We should act now.
NB signing the petition is free if you choose. The platform asks for a contribution to circulate the petition. This does not come to Create Equity Fund but goes to Change.org. We want to make this clear as it is a little ambiguous on their site.
Thanks in advance for your support.
