The Issue

I am homeless right now, and I am trying my best to get on my feet. I am not asking for anything extra. I am trying to cover food, meds, hygiene products, transportation to work, and sometimes a hotel room because the meds I take make me really drowsy and I get scared sleeping outside. My mom kicked me out because I am gay, and ever since then it has felt like I have been trying to survive one day at a time while still acting like everything is fine.

What people do not understand is how fast housing loss turns into a full crisis. It is not just rent. It is the ride to work, the place to shower, the money for food, the cleaning products, the safe place to sleep, and the constant stress that makes it even harder to keep going. If there had been emergency help ready when I was first forced out, I might not be in this position now. So many other young adults are going through the same thing after family rejection, and they should not have to depend on luck or strangers online to make it.

I am calling on state and local leaders to create emergency housing funds for young adults who are suddenly forced out by their families, especially lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender young people. These funds should cover immediate hotel stays, transportation, hygiene needs, food, and move-in costs so people can stabilize quickly and keep working. Getting someone safely through the first days and weeks can be the difference between recovery and long-term homelessness.

I am ready to become an adult, get better, and build a stable life, and I know other people are trying just as hard. We need a real safety net for moments like this. Please sign this petition and help push leaders to fund emergency housing support before more young people fall through the cracks.
