In the heart of Ormond Beach, Florida, lies a scenic loop cherished by cyclists like myself. This loop gives us the promise of adventure and physical fitness amidst nature's beauty. However, each journey seems like a perilous quest as we navigate between narrow paths meant for cars and brave the formidable proximity of vehicles speeding by.

The danger for cyclists along this loop isn't hypothetical—it's heartbreakingly real. According to a report from the Governors Highway Safety Association, Florida ranks as the deadliest state for cyclists in America, with more than 6.2 cyclist fatalities per million people each year. Without designated bike lanes, those of us on the loop are faced with an alarming risk every time we embark on our rides.

Creating dedicated bike lanes isn't just a passionate plea; it's a necessity. Neighboring cities, such as St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, have successfully incorporated bike lanes, resulting in reduced cyclist accidents by over 30%, as noted by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Implementing bike lanes would not only safeguard cyclists but also enhance the overall appeal of Ormond Beach. Visitors and residents alike could enjoy recreational biking with peace of mind, contributing to the physical health and economic vitality of our community.

Therefore, I urge the City Council and the relevant authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of Ormond Beach's residents and visitors alike by establishing bike lanes on the loop. Let us not wait for a tragedy to spur action. Let us be proactive and ensure a safe, beautiful, and cyclist-friendly environment for everyone.

Please join me in advocating for this crucial change. Sign the petition to create bike lanes on the loop in Ormond Beach and protect the lives of cyclists who call this town home.
