In Henderson County, TN,  residents are burdened with the issue of abandoned and stray animals wandering our roads and land. Anyone who has traveled down HWY 412 or the Bypass has likely witnessed dogs and other animals wandering dangerously close to traffic. Or had a stray take shelter in their yard. Existing Animal Control services don't extend beyond city limits, leaving a significant portion of our county unprotected.

Our County Sheriff is unable to intervene or address the animal overflow issues because there simply isn't a county-wide Animal Control department to provide the necessary support. The result? Animals are left to fend for themselves, often forming feral colonies or ending up in precarious situations as residents are forced to take in as many as they can or find them new homes.

The lack of a response from our county not only endangers the animals but also poses a significant risk to drivers on busy roads. With no formal system in place, we miss the opportunity to humanely manage and potentially reduce the stray and abandoned animal population through systematic capture, neutering, and adoption processes.
