Create an enclosed dog park in Joyce/Collingwood, Vancouver
The Issue
Living in the Joyce/Collingwood community of Vancouver, I find myself facing a daily challenge familiar to many local dog owners. Despite our love for our pets and the commitment to providing them with the best exercise and socialization opportunities, the nearest off-leash dog parks are at least a 45-minute walk away. Without the convenience of a car or the permission to use public transit with our furry friends, this distance becomes an insurmountable barrier.
Our dogs often find themselves exhausted by the time we reach these distant parks, and for those of us with mobility constraints or facing time limitations, the journey is not feasible. Consequently, we are placed in the uncomfortable position of deciding between the welfare of our pets and adherence to local bylaws.
The lack of a nearby dog park not only diminishes our ability to responsibly care for our pets but also forces us into situations where we may be infringing upon rules by using local areas illegally. Creating a dedicated, enclosed dog park within the Joyce/Collingwood neighborhood would provide a safe and legal space for dogs to play and socialize without the exhausting journey.
Enclosed dog parks offer myriad benefits—not just for the dogs who can roam freely and safely but also for building stronger community ties among pet owners. Such a space promotes healthy pet lifestyles and reduces potential conflicts arising from unauthorized pet activities in non-designated areas.
I urge the Vancouver Parks Board and community leaders to prioritize the development of an enclosed dog park in our area. By investing in this project, we can ensure that Joyce/Collingwood remains a vibrant, pet-friendly community, improving quality of life for both residents and their pets.
Please support this initiative by signing this petition to bring a much-needed dog park to Joyce/Collingwood. Together, we can make a positive change for our community and our beloved pets. Sign now to show your support!
