The Issue

Create a Public Park at 1600 Tyvola Road

Charlotte is growing quickly, but our access to neighborhood green space isn’t keeping pace. The property at 1600 Tyvola Road presents a unique opportunity to preserve open land and create a public park that would serve families, students, and neighbors for generations.

Instead of being lost to private development, this site could become a vibrant community park — a place where children can play, families can gather, and residents can enjoy nature close to home.

A park at this location would:

  • Provide much-needed green space for surrounding neighborhoods
  • Create a safe place for children and families to play and exercise
  • Support community events and outdoor learning opportunities
  • Improve quality of life and environmental health in our area

Public parks strengthen communities. They promote healthier lifestyles, create safe spaces for children, and bring neighbors together.

We urge local leaders and decision-makers to explore options to preserve 1600 Tyvola Road and turn it into a public park that the community can enjoy for generations. Sign this petition to show your support for creating a public park at 1600 Tyvola Road. Together, we can protect green space and invest in our community’s future.

Good Morning, Our staff has already concluded that because Marion Diehl, greenways and Park Road Park are all in the vicinity of this property, creating a park here would not be good use of funds. I certainly have advocated for it but even I cannot disagree with their findings. I do acknowledge that the neighbors and school parents do desire a park (I do too). Thank you for your petition. Many thanks for your advocacy! Laura Laura J. Meier Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners District 5
