"People who abuse animals are psychologically diminished. They are incapable of forming healthy relationships and are dangerous to society. The correlation between violent criminals and those who abuse animals is nearly perfect. If you know someone who has done this or has talked about abusing animals it is important that they be reported. A child, defenseless adult or senior citizen will most likely be the next victim. Even if you think "it's only an animal" remember this; animal abusers don't stop at defenseless animals." Michael Moore
New York Senator Greg Ball said that animal abusers are the worst kinds of people in our society whose behavior towards animals is a measuring stick by which to expect how they would treat people. "It is more than well-established that the abuse of animals can be a gateway behavior to violence against humans."
People, plants and animals are in just one ecosystem, and for them to live harmoniously they have to treat each other with respect. Since, human beings are the highest form of living thing on earth; they are the ones responsible in the caring of plants and animals.
Unfortunately, there are people who think animals do not deserve any respect. These kinds of people are self-centered and often believe animals are the lower form of living thing that should be under the rule of humans. Keeping this thought in their minds makes them more violent towards animals, and other living beings.
People who intentionally hurt animals because they enjoy hurting things or because it makes them feel powerful are the worst form of living being on earth! Many of these people would hurt other people if they could get away with it. They just choose to hurt animals because animals are more helpless than people, and they have no voice – no say in what is happening to them.
We need to be their voice and stand up for them! We need a public national registry for animal abusers just as we have for pedophiles and other criminals. Make it mandatory for animal abusers to register as criminal offenders. Animal abuse is illegal and those who abuse need to be publicly acknowledged and tracked as offenders in order to help protect our society at large. As well, prohibit a violator from gaining custody and control of another animal.
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
