As an avid Duolingo user with a 600-day streak, I have experienced first-hand the struggle of remembering new words, especially while studying Chinese. It led me to a disappointing realization that despite my constant efforts, my progress was minimal. I believe this shortcoming could be addressed by introducing a new feature in Super Duolingo: "Flash Cards". This feature would present users with a word in the language they're studying and allow them to flip the card to see its meaning in their native language. They can then select "I understand" or "Need Practice," providing instant feedback and reinforcement. According to the National Training Laboratories, people retain 30% of what they see, making visual study aids like flash cards an effective tool for learning and comprehension (NTL, 2000). Also, by using Flash cards, users can focus on words they need to work on, rather than having to work on repetitive lessons they already learned. The addition of this feature would revolutionize language learning on Duolingo, making it more interactive, effective, and enticing for users to upgrade to Super Duolingo.
