Create a Menstrual Wellness Center on SUNY Plattsburgh Campus!

The Issue

The menstruating bodies in and around SUNY plattsburgh need a space! Sign this petition to show campus officials this is an issue the population cares about! This deserves funds and attention!

What would this space look like?

  • It would provide factual educational pamphlets and information about the menstrual cycle and common menstrual dysfunctions like endometriosis and PCOS.
  • Provide people with resources to deal with possible menstrual dysfunction
  • Referrals or connection to centers and social services that can help
  • A supply of pads and tampons, diva cup/reusable menstrual product giveaways for those that choose to enter.
  • A place to bring concerns about other issues regarding menstruation on campus (ex. menstrual product disposal sites in ALL bathrooms)
  • A supportive and safe place for those who menstruate or who want to learn more about menstruation.
  • Healthcare proffesionals (doctors, midwifes, doulas) coming on occasion to discuss menstrual health with students/community members

Why is this something we need? Most people do not receive a comprehensive education on menstruation, leading to many misconceptions about their own and others bodies. This contributes to stigma around menstruation and menstruating peoples bodies, as well as unacknowledged/unknown health issues. This is a feminist concern because the medical silencing of menstruating people and their bodies is enforced and enacted by the patriarchy. This silencing also disproportionately affects marginalized groups (POC, LGTBQ+ etc.), who are historically and currently oppressed and abused by the medical system, furthering feminist interest in counteracting it.
