The Issue

I started this walk because after my son Kylee was murdered by gun violence on October 29, 2023, I learned how heavy this pain really is. People see us show up in orange, they see us walking for peace, but they do not always see what families are carrying every day after the cameras are gone. I started stepping in 2024 for my son, and for every family living with the same kind of loss, and now this third annual walk on October 18, 2026 is about making sure our grief is not ignored.

Families impacted by gun violence should not have to figure everything out alone while they are grieving. We need real support, real communication, and real follow-through when a life has been taken by senseless violence. Too many people are left trying to navigate trauma, funeral costs, counseling, victim services, and the long wait for answers all at once. Justice should not depend on who has the strength to fight through heartbreak by themselves.

That is why I am calling on local leaders to create a dedicated office for families affected by gun violence. This office should connect families to counseling, emergency support, case updates, and victim advocacy, and it should make sure no family is left in the dark after losing someone they love. If our communities can respond to violence, then they can also respond to the families living with the aftermath. We need a system that treats surviving families like they matter.

This walk is for Kylee, and it is for every victim whose name deserves to be remembered and every family still waiting for support and justice. I am asking you to stand with us and help turn remembrance into something that protects and supports people in real life. Please sign this petition and help demand a real support system for families after gun violence.
