Create a law to stop extreme rent increases across America for our children's future

The Issue

If you live in America you are involved.. stop saying "I don't want to get involved" by staying silent your silence speaks for you and is saying you don't care that people are being de-homed and being taken advantage of. Your silence also drowns our voices out. Please stand United with me. Please stop dividing us. United we stand Devided we fall. If you or anyone you know rents whether it be lot rent or renting a full home and live in America you are at risk of becoming homeless at anytime. Let's start by me telling you my situation and many more like me are in my situation as we speak. I borrowed money to buy my own mobile home so I would never have to worry about becoming homeless. However my mobile home is on a rented lot in a mobile home community and my lot was a low rate because I live in an area where jobs are scarce and high paying jobs are almost impossible to find. We were lucky to find a job that pays 15 an hour. That's the absolute highest pay we have been able to find in the area. So to get back to what I was saying. We moved here a few days before May of 2021. Our lot rent was $170 a month for an extremely small 15 foot in front to the next trailer and 15 foot in back to the next trailer piece of land just for our trailer to sit on. At the end of June 2021 the very next month after moving in our landlord had sold the land and it went into the hands of some millionaire. We got a letter saying our rent was increasing to $400 a month August 1st. That was 3 months after we moved in. They went up more than double for absolutely no reason. They did this with multiple mobile home parks and hundreds of people in our area from those parks had to sell their homes, borrow more money from banks to move their homes, or lost their homes and became homeless. Veterans, people on fixed incomes, families with children, people that had been living their lives for decades in these homes now homeless or no longer a home owner and now renting a place. We all believed this had to be criminal, we reached out to the news, the Attorney General, lawyers, everyone we could think of and no one helped. They went up on rent again December of 2022 right before Christmas to $525 a month. Again for no reason at all. It's still the same piece of land. No updates. No changes. This time people started listening because more mobile home communities have now been purchased and have become victim to this new landlord. I researched and found that no renter in America is safe from a landlord raising rent to whatever they want whenever they want. In West Virginia all they need to do is give a written piece of paper 30 days prior to the rent raising. So if they wanted to raise the rent to $30,000 a month they legally have the right to do so. I'm not saying anyone would do that I am simply saying there is no laws to protect a renter from extreme increases in all of America except for around 5 states. In California they have passed a law that makes it to where a landlord can only increase rent up to 5% a year and another 5% increase if cost of living increases. That's a total of 10% a year with conditions. And for an unoccupied home the landlord can set the amount to whatever they want. This is how it should be across all of America. We shouldn't live in fear of becoming homeless at anytime because our landlord decided they want to double or triple our rent for absolutely no reason. We need to make our representatives in Washington DC aware of this situation and have them represent our need for a law to protect us. If you own a home great for you but there is always someone you know or someone you care about that probably rents that needs protection from crooks like the person that raised our rent. We own our home and still have to live in fear every single day. Please if you care for yourself or anyone that is a renter please sign this petition to create a law that protects us from becoming homeless for the profit of someone else.
