Обновление к петицииCreate a Humane Marine Response Team in Oregon: Hope CaresToday’s Progress and Next Actions

I wanted to give everyone a quick update on what has been done today on behalf of Hope and for better preparedness in Oregon going forward.

✅ We surpassed 750 supporters today, and the number is still growing.

The amount of support, heartbreak, and determination from this community is unbelievable.

Every signature is proof that people DO care and that Oregon needs a humane, coordinated marine response plan.

✅  I completed NOAA’s Level 1 Whale Entanglement Response Training.

This is their foundational course for first responders, and it gave me a lot of insight into where our gaps are, what a proper response SHOULD look like, and how communication between agencies is supposed to function.

This will help guide the questions I ask, and the solutions we push for as a community.

✅  I drafted letters to NOAA and ODFW.

These will be sent first thing tomorrow morning.

My goal is to open a direct conversation about:

• What failed during Hope’s response

• Where Oregon’s system is currently falling short

• And what it will take to build a humane, coordinated statewide marine response team

✅  I’m continuing to gather information, research existing protocols, and identify breakdowns in the chain of command.

Tomorrow, I’ll move into the next steps, including outreach to state leadership.

Thank you again to everyone who has signed, shared, cried, and cared.

This petition is not just about Hope it’s about preventing this heartbreak from ever happening again.

Let’s keep pushing.

Together, we are being heard.

🐋💙
