Hello, I am a 2020 senior out of New Bern High School. A couple weeks ago, the senior class of NBHS had voted on what we would like to do for a graduation. The consensus was that we would push the graduation back to a later date so that we could still have a normal graduation. A couple days ago NBHS had the seniors revote on whether we wanted to have a virtual ceremony or push the graduation to a later date (which we already voted for.) The new consensus was that we would have a virtual ceremony. A virtual ceremony is allowing the seniors to go to the school by appointment and walk across the stage with only four family members watching. A lot of friends and family that I know of, including me, want their friends and family to watch them graduate in person and not on a screen, which is why the consensus for the first vote was what majority of the students wanted. The second vote was for the parents. Graduation is NOT about the parents. It is about the Class of 2020 and their accomplishments. It is focusing on the Class of 2020 and how far they have come. Please help the graduating class of 2020 with giving them the graduation they want and deserve. A lot of events for us seniors were taken away from us because of COVID-19, please please please don’t let another thing get taken away from us.
