Morley Town Council have approved a permanent closure of access to Queen Street via Morley Bottoms in Morley, Leeds and to place a pedestrianised area in it’s place.

This will be of “slight” benefit to 2 of the bars located at Morley Bottoms allowing them to put out a few extra tables and chairs during reasonable weather. That is it.

Other businesses nearby will see a decrease in passing traffic and henceforth revenue.

Queen Street has large volumes of traffic travelling up & down it constantly from Albert Road, Brunswick Street, Chapel Hill & Queensway. This closure will direct all this traffic via alternative routes, most of which are bad enough under normal circumstances with exceptionally tight corners, blind corners, narrow roads and parked cars either side. This additional traffic will be directed in the direction of either Seven Hills Primary School or Morley Victoria Primary School.

When asked about where the traffic will be diverted, a member of Morley Town Council quoted “Highways Agency will sort something” only highlighting the fact that no consideration for diverted traffic had been made. That said member of Morley Town Council doesn’t even live in Morley so has no genuine investment.

Hopefully this petition will highlight the sheer volume of people who think that this development is moronic and have the common sense to foresee just how much of a negative impact this will have upon the nearby businesses and residents.
