Crack down on vape distributors who sell to minors

The Issue

This is a petition to increase the fines and punishments to make it less enticing to sell tobacco products to minors. The fines need to be crippling, not a few hundred dollars. The rise of vaping among teens is destroying their health and these people need to be held accountable and feel the pain of their greed.

Our youth are at a great health risk due to vaping, causing irreversible lung damage and even death. https://therealcost.betobaccofree.hhs.gov/vapes/real-facts

It’s already illegal to sell tobacco to people under 21, however, there is a growing number of merchants, like store owners and gas station attendants who do not check IDs and sell to minors anyway.

They need to be held accountable for violating the law. Stricter punishments need to be handed down, including heftier fines, loss of license and prosecuted for child endangerment.

One store in particular that I know of is a hot spot for a local high school and middle school where my son attended. I reported it to local police and the high school resource officer. Nothing ever came of it. I had hoped they’d be shut down due to violation of tobacco laws, but instead, this year they’ve expanded into the larger unit next store. It’s infuriating that no one holds these people accountable.

My son was introduced to it at school, got heavily addicted to it and is now trying to quit because he will die if he doesn’t. He is currently suffering from a horrific liver disease and was just placed on a liver transplant list. The Dr made it clear that they won’t offer him a new liver if there is nicotine in his system because they also need his lungs to be healthy enough to be intubated in an 8+-hr surgery. Without the transplant, he could eventually die as the liver disease he has progresses. Nicotine makes his symptoms worse. He hasn’t slept thru the night in 2 years.

Places who sell to minors should be put out of business, their tobacco licenses revoked, hefty financially crippling fines and even jail time if they can’t uphold the laws. They are endangering our kids’ lives and should be held criminally responsible if anything happens to them, including covering all medical bills.

Please join me in this fight to save our kids.
