Today the Free Press reported that St. James councillor Shawn Dobson made a motion to look at excessive speeds,...on active transportation paths. Not residential streets and certainly not Portage Ave, but paths.
This same councillor when confronted by the CityTV news reporter who interviewed me the day I formed this petition, refused to go on camera and speak to the issue of street racing, citing that he hasn't received any complaints.
I am willing to give Councillor Dobson the benefit of the doubt. I imagine he received some complaints of fast passes by an e-bike on a AT path and then, doing what he was elected to do, representing his constituents, made the motion.
My hope is when I reach out to connect with the councillor he will meet our concerns with the same dedication and will do his best to move the issue forward. (I plan to do this after the prov. election is over)
In the meantime if you want to let Councillor Dobson know that this issue is very real, here is his contact information. https://legacy.winnipeg.ca/council/wards/#/ward/2022/st-james
P.S. my eBike's speed is mandated and controlled by the federal govt and can't go faster that 30kms an Hr.
