The problem is bigger than we think

When I started this petition I took aim at the reckless driving that occurs Sunday nights along Portage Ave. Sadly, I'm beginning to understand this problem is rampant in other parts of the city. 

Inkster by King Edward has had two fatalities linked to high speed in the last year.  This latest death occurred last Sunday at 11:30pm. 4 people seriously injured with one succumbing to their injuries.  I've driven this stretch countless times, and  it's designed like a drag strip.

Meanwhile, the victims of the crash at Sturgeon & Portage, the reason I started this petition, are on the long road of recovery.  On the local Facebook group the mother and the aunt of one of the injured shared insights on what's ahead for them. They are looking at months  of rehab, pain and suffering. My heart breaks reading these posts. 

What many see as a tragic incident that gets cleaned before the Monday AM rush hour is an event that changes lives forever, not just for the victim but their loved ones all round them.

This problem is obviously bigger than Sunday nights, on Portage Ave , but we have to start somewhere. We have to send a strong message to our elected officials that we want a safe community for our families.
