Hello Everyone,

We are petitioning for all crab pots or any pots that are in the ICW to be marked. We live on the Island of North Topsail and have 3 boat docks on our property. We recently have had several issues with crab pots and or other pots in our area. We understand that we cannot control the tides at all, however we have had several incidents where we have hit a pot at night. We are asking that all pots be registered at the Town Hall and receive a tag to place on the pot for ID purposes and that they all install a Yellow LED or Solar light to them.  If the pots refuse to have these two simple items installed, then they can be removed from the waterway either from the Fish & Game, Coast Guard or an individual. It is very hard to see these pots at night and we have not only had friends run over one but we have also. We are charged a fee to take the damaged pot to the dump and repair our props on our boat. This issue has become a huge problem recently. We are simply asking that the Town makes you register the pot and receive a tag to place on the pot and purchase a Yellow or Orange LED or Solar light for each pot.  This will not only help the fishermen but the boaters in this area.
