Speed up the reunification process. Give us extended visitation now!
The Issue
Many parents involved with the juvenile courts in Ohio have had court ordered visitation suspended due to Covid19. Many parents are working on reunification plans with Children's Services through the court and have not had physical contact with their children in over a month.
It has scientifically proven that lack of parental contact impedes the reunification process, and has been proven detrimental to both the emotional and mental well-being of both the children and their parents.
In these unprecedented times, with our children in temporary foster homes, it brings fear into the hearts of our children, that their parents may die without them ever being able to come home. I quote from my own daughter's mouth who is just 9 years old..."Mom I don't know what to believe anymore, will I ever come home?" We have had no contact aside phone calls for nearly 2 months now. She should have been phased into unsupervised visits back in March.
Why are prisoners being released before our children can even come home? Why are the innocent made to suffer in fear, while felons are let out to roam the streets and be with their families? Ironic that we can't have our children home, but the man who tried to beat his wife last month can return to continue his damage..(example)
Why is walmart allowed to remain open, grocery stores shopped in, weddings and funerals allowed to continue in parties of less than a certain number but we are banned from being allowed to see our children?
It isn't fair. Its inhumane, its hurting not only people in Ohio, but everywhere. I ask not only for myself, but for all parents working successful care plans who were close to reunifications with their children, who now sit and wait hopelessly praying to see their children alive again soon.
Covid19 is taking lives daily and it has been shown that it wont stop anytime soon. Let us be reunited with our children. Let these foster homes be open for the swarms of children who will need placement due to Covid19.
I beg of you...Let our children come home!
