Dear supporters,
Thank you again for your support! We hope you are all staying healthy and safe.
On May 1st, art galleries, along with New York City’s over 200,000 small business owners, will be expected to pay rent on their commercial spaces despite indefinite closure orders. These businesses employ nearly half the City’s workforce. NADA and ADAA are calling on all small business owners and supporters to join together in solidarity to put pressure on our state representatives to #cancelrent. Many small businesses in New York will not survive without relief, and this is one way to enable them to continue and make it through this crisis.
Even if you are in a position where you can pay rent, we ask that you consider helping those who cannot in these three important ways:
At 12pm on Monday April 27th, join NADA and ADAA in a coordinated campaign via Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to advocate for #cancelrent (see the toolkit linked below for graphics, sample language for social media and details on State Senators to tag).
Please consider reaching out to other small businesses in your neighborhood—restaurants, bars, grocery stores, movie theaters, etc.—to share these resources with, and ask if they too will advocate for cancelling rent by supporting NY State Senate Bill S8125 and contacting State Senators that currently do not support the bill.
Continue to put pressure on your State Senators leading up to May 1st through social media and phone calls. Make sure to mention specifically if you work or live in the given district of a representative you are tagging or calling.
The documents Linked Here include these resources that can be used on Monday: Cancel Rent Action Sheet, list of politicians to contact who DO NOT support the bill, and graphics for social media.
All our best,
The NADA Team
