Coverage of Iran Protests in Canadian Media
The Issue
I, as an Iranian Canadian have been closely watching the media coverage of the protests that are going on in Iran and I have to say that your coverage has been very disappointing.
While hundreds of thousands of Iranian Canadians live in Canada, your level of attention and time allocated to these widespread nationwide protests, specially the dramatic events of Jan 8 & 9 and after are a shame.
In addition to the very brief coverage, there has been a suspicious trend in how the reports are presented which is in total contradiction with what is going on inside the country. In your news you picture the events as only a reaction to inflation and decline in purchasing power and untruthfully say that people are asking for better living conditions!
Let me be very clear with you. This is a pure lie!
While people are suffering from economic conditions and this has been one of the initial triggers, there is absolutely no ask for better living conditions among the brave protesters who are now coming out in millions against the very brutal and oppressive regime.
They want the collapse of this regime. They want the Islamic regime to go and they ask for the return of the crown prince Reza Pahlavi. Millions of demonstrators came out all over Iran on Jan 8 & 9 in answer to the ask of the Crown Prince and these are the most common slogans they chant in the face of the regime's militia and oppressive forces when their lives are on the line:
Javid Shah (Long live the King)!
This is the final battle, Pahlavi will return!
Reza Reza Pahlavi, This is the national slogan!
O' Shah of Iran, return to Iran!
Cry Rat Ali (Khamenei), Pahlavi is coming back!
You can not intentionally hide this or picture it differently to your audience.
I understand that you don't have boots on the ground, but there are thousands and thousands of videos published in social media that are confirming this and can be verified without any shadow of doubt.
Please change your media approach in siding with the falling regime and low balling the heroic people of Iran.
Iranians Canadians are very disappointed with your news coverage and ask for an immediate reconsideration of your policies.
Thank you,
People of Iran!
