Hello Parents/Students 

For years many parents have found themselves in the unfortunate situation of stressing and worrying about how to get their kids to school in Courtice. 

According to the PVNC Board of Education, residents need to live a greater distance of 3.2 kms from the school in order to qualify for busing from the board. As you all are aware Courtice especially in the South end is already a highly populated area that is growing rapidly. The PVNC school board has outdated boundaries set in place and these expectations are simply ridiculous. 

What they neglect to factor in is winter months where sidewalks are not salted or cleared, below freezing temperatures, safety of high traffic areas with no sidewalks and darkness in early morning hours. 

PVNC has not revisited this growing area and it’s boundaries in over 20 yrs and things need to change! In the past it’s just been a school board representative giving frustrated parents the old        “Sorry that’s our policy”. 

Well we’re fed up and change is needed! All children are entitled and deserve transportation access that pertains to their educational experience. 

Our taxes are allocated to the Board of Education and they themselves (Board staff)  would unlikely walk over 45 min each way to their workplace in good summer weather let alone the extended time and harsh conditions it would take in the winter months. Yes kids are capable of a lot but to get a couple additional buses in this and other areas is not asking a lot either. 

Along with some other parents, we are meeting with local Municipal Representatives this Tuesday to address these concerns with PVNC and Durham Region Transit as there is currently not even the option of a city bus that transports to the vicinity of Holy Trinity from South Courtice. This was once an alternative prior to Covid but hasn’t been revisited since school has gone back to in class.

We would appreciate as many signatures as possible please. Please also share this petition with any parents or students who are affected by busing issues within Courtice.
