hello my name is Jose L. Garcia I have been incarcerated for almost 30 years but I’m trying to get all the help I can get to get back into the courts to possible make a change in the system behind unjust sentencing of people who still are not adults even though the state says that when you turn 18 you are an adult but with proof of studies they can show that a human person is not yet a full grown adult until they are 25. I was sentenced to 6 life sentences at the age of 18 and my co-defendant was sentenced to one life sentence with the possibility of parole and he was only a year younger than I and now he is out as a free man all I’m asking is for anyone that can help with advice or anything it would be truely appreciated. I have my family that is by my side helping with all that is in their reach now we are calling on others for help please all I’m asking for is the chance to start a new chapter in my life after being sentenced once my trail was done so now my question is how can anyone think that it’s ok to rip someone away from their loved ones with such an unjust legal system. I have been able with the help of my loved ones to get most of the stuff together now it’s a matter of getting someone to help and not be intimated by the courts as I prepare myself for this long battle because I can show that my whole case was never to give me a chance only because I was a young Latino who had a trouble past growing up but it does not mean that I’m still that person I’ve become a different person with all this time behind these walls. My family is willing to speak with anyone that is willing to help this link can be shared by all if possible can we make this reach as many people as possible I would be truely grateful as well as my family that is still by my side after so many years all I’m asking for is help. If a law was passed in RI in 2021 allowing people who came to prison before the age of 22 yrs. to be eligible for parole after 20 yrs., but the law excluded a total of 5 people (myself being one of them) serving life without parole  who came to prison before they where 22 yrs. of age. Please revisit this petition if you believe that us 5 individuals should be given a second chance like everyone else who came to prison before they were 22 yrs. of age and sentenced to an excessive sentence.
