Overcrowding of Cars in Beltsville Heights, MD!
The Issue
My two-way street along with others in the Beltsville Heighs community are narrow to the point that if vehicles are parked on both sides, only one car can pass down the street at a time. Additionally, a significant number of the homes in the area have many residents who are car owners. Around me alone, my neighbors have on average six vehicles per home. Some of which are commercial or recreational vehicles. Because the driveways are only able to accommodate two cars (three at best), many of my neighbors park on the streets -- often times blocking others' driveways and requiring delivery trucks or visitors to stop either in the middle of the street or in front of someone's driveway for an undetermined amount of time; on the grass in their yards; and or dangerously close to other vehicles. It is nearly a daily occurrence that we have to ask someone to move from in front of our driveway so that we can either leave home or return.
In addition to this, often times cars speed down these streets. I was in the process of selling my car because I bought an SUV. I parked my car on the street in front of my yard legally. Within a day, someone had sideswiped the entire drivers's side of my car. If you ride up and down the streets in this community, you will see many a ding on the street facing sides of cars who've suffered the same fate. Not to mention there are many children in the area that you just cannot see for all of the cars on the street and in peoples' yards.
We need significant help and order. Posted speed limit signs. Speed bumps. No park zones near driveways so people are able to pull in and out of their own driveways. Fines for cars that are on grass in yards or extending from driveways. Enforcement.
