Imagine being confined for 23 hours a day for a crime you have not been convicted of. You are locked in solitary confinement, in a small windowless room, daytime is when the light is on, nighttime the light is off, and you only get a one hour reprieve where you must choose: Take a shower, or go outdoors. One or the other. You can’t have both. And you’re only 16 years old.
This happens every day here in the Onondaga County Correctional Facility to 16 and 17 year old children. And we need your help to end it.
Join ACTS for a press conference in Grace Episcopal Church’s Welsh Garden where concerned residents of Onondaga County are volunteering to ensure someone is locked in the cell 23/7.
We are calling on people of faith, families, advocates for children, and people outraged by this abuse to voice their concerns at the ACTS Press Conference to end solitary confinement of youth on Sunday, October 18th, 2015 at 3PM. Grace Episcopal Church is located at 819 Madison Street, Syracuse, NY 13210.
After you have saved this important date in your calendar, please share this email with your friends and family to spread the message of humanity, dignity and redemption.
Stand with us as we stand with our youth,
Nancy & Mike, Co-chairs of the Criminal Justice Task Force
