Currently there is no consequence for irresponsible dog owners whose dogs attack, often maiming, sometimes killing other dogs. Not only does this leave the victim's owner distraught but with a hefty vet bill to pay. Often, the owners of the vicious dog or dogs is discovered but cannot be brought to justice. The intention of this petition is make these owners accountable by prosecuting them, making them pay any vet bill incurred and putting in place conditions for their continued dog ownership,. For example by stipulating their dog is always leased. They may even be prevented from owning any further dogs. Very recently my friends dog was serverely attacked in Harlow, she was bitten and her skin ripped from her body. She is traumatised and so is her owner. The owner of the two dogs who attacked laughed. We know who they are yet we are powerless to take action as there is no law in place. These dogs are know locally and have caused trouble before. The vet bill currently stands at £1000 and rising . My own dog was recently attacked in the New Forest by two dogs whose owners were on horse back. These dogs too were running loose, pack animals seeking their small, helpless victim. While on his lead my colleagues dog has been attacked 3 times, once putting its owners in hospital as the offending dog tore at her hand as she frantically tried to protect her pet.. There are many responsible owners, but these inconsiderate individuals continue disregard the potential threat of their animal. Help to make this change and enable dog ownership to be enjoyed by all.
