Hey folks,
Thank you again for your amazing turnout for your public libraries. I'll keep this short and clear.
To remove any of these board members, we are going to have to tackle the problem from the top: Platte and Clay County's Commissioners. These are elected officials. At the end of this year, Ron Schieber of Platte is not as of this moment seeking re-election -- this means there will be an election soon. Please, visit or call your county's election board and know when you need to show up and vote in these local elections.
Platte County gave us Ron's pithy and petty response -- and NO other commissioners from Platte have responded. They're counting on the public forgetting about all this before their elections in 2025. It's a solid bet politicians make regularly. Prove them wrong and show them that office works for you.
Clay County has not responded at all.
Below is the contact information you need to keep pushing for the current commissioners to do the right thing. As well as those counties' election board info.
I'm very proud of the movement that's started here. Let's keep pushing. These are long-term games with long-term investments that MATTER.
But it's up to everyone who signed this petition to ACT in some small way to make a difference. Call. Write. Vote. I'll continue to help the efforts surrounding these issues, but will be closing this petition in the coming weeks--so share it around so we can hit a fine-looking 1k. I think the list of names here is excellent ammunition as elections near, and will be a reminder forever of those trustees' failure in the eyes of the public.
Let's keep on them -- please use the tools below responsibly and respectfully. And again, thank you for all your support -- and your continued support for our libraries.
PLEASE -- drop a line of support to your local branch. Call them and tell them you're proud of what the library stands for. Post on social media. Tell others about how helpful the library is and the great resources you can find there. Above all -- the public utilization of the library system shows its necessity, strength, and resilience as the last truly public institution.
