What is censure?

Censure is a moderate and bipartisan first step toward accountability. It’s a formal statement from Congress declaring that a leader’s behavior was wrong.

While it doesn’t remove someone from office, it sends a strong and public message that their actions were unacceptable. Censure holds leaders accountable when they abuse power, break public trust, or threaten our democracy.

What we’re asking for (2025):

We’re calling on Congress - Democrats and Republicans - to take two urgent, bipartisan steps:

1. Censure Donald Trump for his actions as President in 2025
2. Launch a formal congressional inquiry (formal investigation) into his conduct during and after the 2024 election

This includes:

1. Inciting or encouraging extremist behavior and mob threats at campaign events and public appearances, creating unsafe conditions for citizens, journalists, and elected officials.
2. Attempting to federalize law enforcement by deploying the National Guard for political purposes, firing inspectors general, and pressuring the Justice Department to act against perceived enemies.
3. Stripping due process from political targets and critics, including threats to prosecute former officials and military leaders without adherence to legal norms or independent oversight.
4. Defying court orders and refusing to comply with judicial rulings that limit executive power or protect civil liberties.
5. Undermining freedom of speech by encouraging book bans, threatening educators, and using government platforms to suppress dissenting voices and critical thought - particularly targeting journalists, academics, and public institutions.
