1 in 3 women will experience violence at some point in her life.  Eliminating Violence Against Women is necessary for a healthy and progressive society. Violence against women takes many forms, including domestic violence, rape and its use as a weapon of war, the practice of forced marriages of girl children, the bearing of the brunt of extreme poverty and the selective aborting of unborn females, among others.

Through this pledge, Maitri India wants to engage with every man and woman, boy and girl to take a stand and personally pledge that they will never commit, allow or encourage physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and economic abuse. The movement starts with YOU.

We would appreciate if you could share this link with your friends and family!

“There is one universal truth applicable to all countries, cultures and communities, violence against women is never acceptable, never excusable and never tolerable.”

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee: Stand With Us to End Violence Against Women

I have signed Maitri India’s pledge to end violence against women. Through this, I am pledging to never commit, allow or encourage physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, economic or any other form of abuse, and to respect all women.

I support the value that violence against women is never justifiable under any circumstance. I stand with Maitri in seeking the support of the United Nations General Assembly and the President of India in safeguarding women’s rights and denouncing violence on a global scale.

I hope that you will recognize the active participation and commitment exhibited by 1 million people from around the world, including me. Though such a number is significant, changing the mindset that violence against women is acceptable will take more than 1 million individuals; therefore, I implore you to act on our collective progress. Stand with me to end violence against women.

Thank you.
