Count Everyone: Stop Trump’s Attack on the Census and Our Democracy

Count Everyone: Stop Trump’s Attack on the Census and Our Democracy
The Issue
President Trump has announced plans to conduct a new U.S. census that excludes undocumented immigrants—an alarming and unconstitutional move aimed at shifting political power by erasing millions of people from the count. This isn’t just an attack on immigrants; it’s an attack on the very foundation of our democracy.
The Constitution is clear: the census must count every person living in the United States, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. For over two centuries, that’s how we’ve ensured fair representation and distributed federal resources. But now, in a calculated effort to rig redistricting in favor of one political party, Trump and his allies are pushing to rewrite the rules—and redraw congressional maps—to silence communities they deem unworthy of representation.
This dangerous plan revives a long and shameful history of selectively counting people based on who those in power want to hear from. Excluding undocumented immigrants from the census would deprive entire communities—especially in immigrant-rich states—of political representation, funding for schools and hospitals, and their rightful voice in our democracy.
This is not the first time Trump has tried to undermine the census. His 2020 attempt to remove undocumented immigrants from the count was blocked by federal courts. Now, he's trying again—this time with the added pressure of redistricting and midterm elections on the line.
We cannot allow partisan interests to override constitutional duty. We cannot allow millions of people to be made invisible. And we cannot let this become a precedent for future efforts to manipulate the democratic process.
We call on Congress, the courts, and the Commerce Department to immediately reject any effort to launch a new, exclusionary census. We demand full transparency and adherence to the Constitution: count everyone—because everyone counts.
Sign this petition to defend democracy, protect fair representation, and stop this unconstitutional abuse of power.
