Reform the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter

Dear Mayor Thomaides and Members of the San Marcos City Council:

We, the undersigned, urge you to take action to reform the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter, which is a high-kill shelter – Killing roughly 70% of the cats and 30% of the dogs that enter the shelter. Many of the cats killed by San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter are killed within the 72-hour hold period; often on the very day they enter the shelter.

It is our desire to work with the City of San Marcos in a cooperative manner to end the killing now, as many cities have, by implementing common sense No Kill policies and procedures that have been proven to end the killing of homeless animals.

We ask the City Council of San Marcos, Texas to show its commitment to end the killing of homeless animals by passing a resolution unequivocally stating that is a goal and priority of the City to end the killing of homeless and to reduce the kill rate to less than 10% of all animals that enter the shelter by January 1, 2019.
