Last night Councilman Bonin held a CD11 wide town hall on public safety. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b11tWdI4ibc&t=7s&fbclid=IwAR2HjyC3TBEUedtEnwirUxZ6LqrHdbfEzw9_VLOnuLJzFugxv_dLB6H8qf4
Good questions were asked but because they were all pre-selected and not live, there was no ability for questioners to follow-up on answers that were half-truths covering up difficult and nuanced realities. In my opinion the Councilman skated by on superficial answers that did not present any actual solutions and the moderator never once followed up to dig further.
That's exactly the reason I wanted an outside group like the VNC to run this town hall, so that board members could follow-up on insufficient answers and press the Councilman and LAPD to deliver actual solutions.
Tonight the VNC has a motion on their agenda asking for a Venice run town hall run by the VNC as you asked. https://www.venicenc.org/docs/34484839-9089.pdf (You can zoom in to the 7pm if you want to make public comment).
The item is on the consent calendar so it will certainly pass but CD11 will make the argument that the public already got a town hall last night. They will ignore this motion unless you tell them that last night was not what we asked for and we want a VNC run Venice focused town hall.
I know I've asked you to send a million emails, but I think it's important for us to let the Councilman know that last night's event was not what we asked for and the answers we heard and lack of a plan are entirely insufficient.
