I promise to not send too many email updates, but I had to write and thank everyone for the HUGE response last night to my request that everyone email Nisa.Kove@lacity.org, Mike.Bonin@lacity.org and Board@VeniceNC.org
Here's what a VNC member wrote me last night: "A staggering amount of letters are coming into the VNC demanding a response from Bonin tomorrow night."
Around the same time, Councilman Bonin's Venice Deputy, Nisa Kove, also reached out after 2 weeks of silence. Her response was that the councilman has been informed of the town hall effort, he has spoken with many constituents on these issues, is very concerned, is talking to LAPD and the Mayor's Office and that we'll be kept updated.
My feeling is that if the Councilman has time to talk privately with select constituents he has time for a public town hall to address all constituents.
Tonight would be a great night for the Councilman's office to publicly announce he will commit to a virtual town hall on public safety and to commit to holding it within the next month.
Please keep calling/emailing him to respectfully convey that message. It's 213-444-3508 and you can email Nisa.Kove@lacity.org, Mike.Bonin@lacity.org, Board@VeniceNC.org
The VNC meeting is TONIGHT at 7pm. The agenda and zoom link are at https://www.venicenc.org
If the Councilman's office does not commit to a public town hall during government reports, please make a public comment asking that a virtual town hall on public safety take place in the next month. You may also say what questions you have for the Councilman. You only have a maximum of 60 seconds, being short, to the point and civil is best. Shouting or being derisive makes it easy for you to be dismissed, it will provide them an easy excuse to not have a town hall. Staying calm, making informed concise points will take our efforts much further.
I am so grateful to everyone who is calling and writing in, this level of support for a town hall is really overwhelming and inspiring. Thank you.
