Thank you to the over 1,400 supporters who have signed this petition and thank you to everyone who took the initiative to call into Councilman Bonin's office 213-444-3508 after last week's update.
Here's a report back from supporter, Sarah Neustadter: “I called and left a message on Friday and just called back and spoke with a man named David. They are logging our messages and said they've gotten A LOT of calls over the weekend. So keep calling— they're noting the high call volume.” Please keep calling! 213-444-3508
Tomorrow night at the Venice Neighborhood Council zoom meeting https://www.venicenc.org we have an opportunity to get a public response to this petition from Councilman Bonin's office and to present the questions we would like addressed at that event.
Here's what I'm asking:
1) RIGHT NOW: Send an email to Nisa.Kove@lacity.org, Mike.Bonin@lacity.org, Board@venicenc.org asking for Councilman Bonin to respond to our petition during CD11's government report at tomorrow night's VNC meeting.
2) TOMORROW NIGHT: At the 7pm VNC meeting https://www.venicenc.org make a public comment requesting a virtual town hall on public safety and posing the question you want the Councilman to address. Please keep in mind the VNC members are our allies, this is intended to show how much public support there is for a town hall, not to antagonize them. The more we support and engage with the VNC, the more power they have to advocate for our interests with Councilman Bonin.
Here is the agenda for tomorrow's VNC meeting at 7pm: https://www.venicenc.org/docs/34484830-9041.pdf Here's the zoom link for 7pm tomorrow: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88435860981
There is also a motion on the agenda (in response to this petition) by Soledad Ursua soledad.ursua@venicenc.org to create a Public Health & Safety Committee. It is motion 13C. I think a public safety committee would be beneficial to our efforts. If you have comments or want to voice support you can email board@venicenc.org or you can make a comment during the meeting (it's the last item on the agenda so it'll be a while but luckily it's just a zoom call so you'll be at home doing other stuff while you wait).
There is another relevant motion from Vicki Halliday forming a Bridge Housing Committee to increase community oversight which I believe would be in the interest of public safety. You can read that motion in the agenda as well and make comment or email your comment to board@venicenc.org
Thank you to everyone who is staying persistent in calling, emailing and sharing this petition. I continue to believe that as constituents we all deserve a town hall with our elected official where we can all be heard.
