I have a few updates.
First, I have heard that there will be a town hall. I learned about all of this second hand so I don't have many details. What I have learned does make me concerned that CD11 is setting the terms of this event without input from the VNC or the constituents who signed this petition.
Above all I believe the 1,770 people who supported this petition and pushed for this event should decide on the format, but I cannot speak for everyone and I'd like to hear from you.
Please fill out this survey to tell the VNC and CD11 what you want: https://bit.ly/382r2Sf
I would like to share the results of this survey at the VNC Outreach Committee tonight (Weds Oct 28) at 7pm where the format of the town hall will be discussed. You may join the zoom to listen and comment
Here is the zoom link for the 7pm outreach meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/w/85497217182?tk=ZWa2rOeAaQ2DNNstQeH0xdN6-8gDD2IIftei95cslKo.DQIAAAAT6AgAnhZmajNLcVB5elFRZU16SXUwNkZLbzRnAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Here is the agenda: https://www.venicenc.org/docs/34484833-9060.pdf
Here's what I know:
In response to our efforts, VNC Outreach Committee Chair, Sima Kostovetsky (SimaK@VeniceNC.org), contacted CD11 Venice Deputy, Nisa Kove (Nisa.Kove@lacity.org), who confirmed that the Councilman is working to schedule town hall sometime between election day and Thanksgiving.
Nisa Kove also emailed another constituent stating, "I've been working with the Councilmember on the request for a town hall. In order to best address public safety, the Councilman has requested that LAPD Chief Moore be part of the conversation. We have received confirmation from Chief Moore that he is available for a town hall to discuss public safety concerns before Thanksgiving. We will provide a specific date for this event as soon as possible."
Other details I've heard, but that have not officially been confirmed:
--CD11 is not certain the VNC is the right venue for this town hall so they may organize/moderate it themselves.
--There is a possibility this will be a town hall for all of CD11 not just Venice.
I look forward to reading everyone's responses to the survey above and do not think we should declare success yet. I believe it is vital for us all to keep pushing to make sure this town hall is the open public forum that we all deserve.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out the survey, once again here is the link to the survey: https://bit.ly/382r2Sf
