Preserve McMichael Park as a Natural Green Space
The Issue
KEEP McMICHAEL PARK as a NATURAL GREEN SPACE
McMichael Park is a small, historical park in the East Falls section of Philadelphia. McMichael Park has been maintained as a passive park since 1929. With six acres of a natural play space, lush green grass, magnificent trees, shrubbery, flowers, park benches, and war memorial the park is a wonderful setting to relax, read, play, run, and picnic. It is rare for children and adults living in urban spaces to have the opportunity to explore nature and utilize a quiet piece of land - at McMichael Park they can do just that!
At this time some neighbors are proposing an installation of a playground in McMichael Park. East Falls is a neighborhood that already has several actively used playgrounds and plans for a new playground at the local school. This proposal, if allowed, will shift the nature of the park entirely from a passive to an active park. The community park is a gift of nature that residents are eager to maintain as a quiet piece of earth and continue to use as intended by the founders of McMichael Park 87 years ago.
KEEP McMICHAEL PARK as a NATURAL GREEN SPACE.
