WE SAY NO to a Full Alcohol permit for TOAST Bakery
The Issue
WE SAY NO to a Full Alcohol Permit for Toast Bakery!
The owners of Toast, located on the NE corner of West 3rd and Harper Ave (8221 W. 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90048), are requesting from the City of Los Angeles a Full Alcohol License, with the intention to serve alcohol from 7 am in the morning to 11 pm at night.
More than half of Toast's 122 seats are outside on the sidewalk. And the majority of the outdoor seating is on Harper Ave, a residential street and only few steps away from the homes of families with children and seniors.
Toast Bakery has never been respectful of our community!
The owners of Toast have not been good neighbors and they should not be granted the privilege of an alcohol permit. The owners promised that the restaurant would never serve alcohol and remain a restaurant. They have ignored community complaints about parking, noise and crowds. They don't provide parking for their 62 employees and their proposed parking for the 122 patrons DOESN'T EXIST and what parking they have can disappear in an instant.
The community has tolerated the restaurant because they currently close at 6 PM. Now they are requesting to close at 11 pm which will create MORE NOISE, MORE CRIME and prohibit RESIDENTS FROM PARKING CLOSE TO THEIR HOMES. They destroyed the corner of S. Harper and 3rd making ingress and egress impossible, and dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists. Now they want to totally overwhelm our residential community both DAY AND NIGHT.
A Neighborhood Resident Said:
"THIS ALCOHOL LICENSE MUST BE STOPPED!" The applicant has caused serious and chronic problems to the surrounding neighborhood for over the past 13 years. What made this "bakery" restaurant bearable was that they did not serve any alcohol and closed at 6 p. Now they want to serve alcohol and close at 11 p. NO WAY!
These owners exploit our neighborhood for their own financial gain, and have no regard or concern for how to be a good neighbor.
They have misled us and had us believe they would never get an alcohol license and would not be open late, while ALL ALONG they planned to get a full alcohol license and sell alcohol on our public sidewalks steps from our homes until late into the night! And to make matters worse, they will then be open into the wee hours of the day and night while the 62 employees clean up and prepare for the next day! The noise alone from the additional delivery trucks that block our streets and alleyways will be intolerable! A full line of alcohol served at this restaurant will destroy our community.
We fought them twice before and won! But it is getting increasingly more difficult to make our government officials listen.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
Please sign this petition and forward it to your neighbors, friends and family.
