PLANS TO BUILD 300 HOUSES ON GREEN BELT IN HESWALL - WIRRAL GREEN BELT & LOCAL PLAN UNDER ATTACK AGAIN!!

Barratt Homes are planning a residential development of up to 300 dwellings on 15 hectares of prime Heswall Green Belt farmland with access from Chester High Road just south of the Glegg Arms.

This would run counter to the Adopted Wirral Local Plan with its 'Brownfield Only' Policy, which Planning Inspectors stated was fully justified to address the real NEEDS of Wirral. Just 5 miles from Heswall, Life Expectancy in the east of the Wirral is 12 years LESS and the Housing Stock is poor and needs replacing or upgrading through 'Regeneration' which is currently underway.

They added that to allow ANY of 'the easy, profitable options' of building on Green Belt farmland would hamper that vital 'Regeneration' and possibly halt it completely, leading to continued Deprivation and unacceptable Disparity.

There is no Planning Application as yet but a formal 'Request for a Screening Opinion' has been lodged to (in the Developer's words) "confirm that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is NOT required"

We all need to disagree with this assertion and require the Council to insist upon an Environmental Impact Assessment  being included in any Application.

The Developers submission can be viewed and comments can be sent using the online Planning Portal accessed through the following LINK: https://www.wirral.gov.uk/planning-and-building/planning-permission/search-planning-applications - Planning Reference:  SCR/26/00352

or by email to: Case Officer Mr B Bechka on benjaminbechka@wirral.gov.uk or planningapplications@wirral.gov.uk .

The 'National Planning Policy Framework' (NPPF) says: Green Belt serves 5 purposes: this Application would conflict with 3 of them, namely:

(a) to check the unrestricted sprawl of large built-up areas;

(b) to assist in safeguarding the countryside from encroachment; and

(e) to assist in urban regeneration, by encouraging the recycling of derelict and other urban land.

PLEASE, tell the Council  you OPPOSE such developments on Green Belt and SUPPORT the Local Plan.

The closing date for objections is 1st April 2026

Once these beautiful fields are gone, they are gone forever!

Thank you for your support.
