Just a couple of days before the closing date of the Phase 1 Consultation, Peak Cluster have only now just released details about the height of the Meols AGI.
After persistent questioning, Peak Cluster previously admitted that the Meols AGI would be 300m x 180m which is 54000m2 (or 580,000 sq ft) That’s the size of 7 or 8 Football Pitches
Now they have finally admitted that the Meols AGI will be up to 15m high (4 to 5 storeys high)
Make no mistake, this is a MASSIVE Structure proposed at Meols. It is not simply an “Above Ground Installation” it is an ENORMOUS INDUSTRIAL PLANT operating 24/7 producing light, noise and vibration.
For comparison, you may be aware of the Astley Warehouse Complex in Wigan which has gained a lot of attention in the media for dwarfing local housing estates and blighting the lives of local residents. The foot print of the Astley Warehouses are 32500m2 (350,000 sq ft). The footprint of the Meols AGI is OVER ONE AND A HALF TIMES the size of the Astley Warehouses in Wigan and the main building it is going to be of a similar height. This does not included the 50m vent stack.
The proposed site of this enormous industrial plant is on land between Meols and Moreton, either in the “Landfall Zone” near the coast, or in the “Inland Zone off Heron Rd”
Peak Cluster know that this AGI will be ENORMOUS, emitting noise and vibration 24/7 and that it will blight the lives of local residents. They are already talking about compensating residents who have to move from their homes due to noise and vibration and compulsory purchase orders.
The Meols AGI is proposed in one of the worst possible places for noise and vibration….on saturated soils, such as saturated, and loose deposits, specifically soft clay, silt, loose sand, and peat. These materials are highly unstable, provide poor foundation support, and tend to amplify ground-borne vibrations and are exactly the sort of soils found in and around the proposed sites the Meols AGI. Peak Clusters Environmental Statement Scoping report states that there wil be “ Long term effects associated with the operation of mechanical and electrical plant at the Coastal AGI. Noise from these sources has the potential to give rise to effects at individual dwellings and communities.”
This is not just about bringing CO2 from Peak District chemical plants, we are now learning that there are plans to bring CO2 into Tranmere via ship and connect it to “a pipeline” to take it out to the gas fields in Morecambe Bay. It is becoming evident that the Government plans to make Wirral the CO2 sewage pipe for the whole of Europe and Wirral’s MPs support this.
It is not too late to provide your feedback to the Peak Cluster
You can take part in the consultation through Peak Cluster’s website: https://peakcluster.co.uk/
Click on “Consultation”, scroll down to “How to Provide Your Feedback”, then continue down a few paragraphs and select the “online feedback form” link.
You will be asked to provide your details and respond to general statements such as “Do you agree or disagree that industry is important to the UK?”. Please note that your answers to these statements may be used by Peak Cluster to support their case. You are not required to answer all of their questions.
After submitting this section, you will be directed to questions about specific parts of the proposed pipeline. As this is only Phase 1 of the consultation, there will be opportunities to provide more detailed feedback later. For now, please ensure you register your opposition and include reasons for your views.
There are also sections for comments on “Additional Considerations” and “Our Consultation”, so do share your thoughts there as well.
It is important that as many people as possible register their opposition at this stage. The closing date is still 27th February.
