HOW BIG WILL THE PEAK CLUSTER MEOLS CO2 PIPELINE AGI BE?

What we know so far….

At the Hoylake consultation event, some attendees felt that Peak Cluster was intentionally vague about the AGI , initially stating just that it will be a “large facility”. After persistent questioning from the public, Peak Cluster indicated that the Meols AGI (Above Ground Installation) is likely to cover an area between 5,000 m² and 15,000 m².

One of the Peak Cluster representatives explained that the size of the AGI will depend on whether a compression facility is required at this location. This has, apparently, not yet been decided. If a compression facility is included, the site will be larger and is likely to be located on the Green Belt south of Meols, off Heron Lane.

During the Peak Cluster Webinar on Tuesday 27th Jan, they stated that the Meols AGI would be

·       Continuously operating 24/7

·       Will have lights

·       Will be permanently staffed

·       300m x 180m which is 54000m2 (580,000 sq ft) – this is SIGNIFICANTLY LARGER than what they said at the consultation event

Make no mistake, this is a MASSIVE Structure proposed at Meols. For comparison, you may be aware of the Astley Warehouse Complex in Wigan which has gained a lot of attention in the media for dwarfing local housing estates and blighting the lives of local residents. The foot print of the Astley Warehouses are 32500m2 (350,000 sq ft).

The Meols AGI footprint is OVER ONE AND A HALF TIMES the size of the Astley Warehouses in Wigan.

Whilst the Astley Warehouse is up to 60 ft (15m) tall, we don’t yet know how tall the Meols AGI unit will be. However, a Peak Cluster Rep stated that it would be “more than a storey” high. We also know that the vent stack will be upto 50m high. For comparison, Leasowe Lighthouse is 33m high.

They have given no information on what this enormous structure will look like but it is likely to resemble a chemical plant, just like other carbon capture CO2 compressor plants.

Peak Cluster know that this AGI will be ENORMOUS, emitting noise 24/7 and that it will blight the lives of local residents. They are already talking about compensating residents who have to move from their homes and compulsory purchase orders.

The location of the Meols AGI will be in the Green Belt and in a flood risk zone. Locals know that these fields flood regularly, the ground water table is always high and the fields are under water for most of the winter. Such a large structure in the flood plain will displace massive amounts of water and WILL increase flood risk to properties in Meols and Moreton. The Astley Warehouse has caused flooding problems and it wasn’t even built in a floodplain.
