The new Government's proposals, to change how Housing Need is calculated, means that 69% of Local Authorities’ will see a requirement to build an ADDITIONAL 200 houses OR MORE PER YEAR year on top of what they are ALREADY required to build.
For Wirral Borough, this means the Housing Need has shot up 141% from 728 houses per year to 1755 houses per year. This will mean 28000 houses to be built over the next 16 years giving a population increase of over 60,000 i.e. an additional 20%. This is despite Wirral's population increasing by just 411 in between 2011 and 2021.
Bizarrely, London, which has arguably the worst housing shortage in the country, will see its Local Housing Need Figure DROP by over 18,000 homes per annum.
These ill though out and rushed through proposals, which have been encouraged by the Developers, will not deliver what is actually needed i.e Truly Affordable Homes in the right places. Instead it will encourage Developers to cherry pick the most profitable Green Spaces on the pretence of delivering "Affordable (80% of Local Market Value) Homes" which are still UNAFFORDABLE TO MOST.
Please sign this petition and share it to all your friends and family nationally. People across the Country are now facing the decimation of their local environment during a climate emergency for houses, in locations where they are not needed, which will be unaffordable to most.
