Defend Wirral's Green Spaces

29 jul 2018
Dear Supporters,
Labour Councillors are holding meetings in Bebington and Bromborough on 30th and 31st July. Please try and attend and ask them what ,exactly, they plan to do to defend Wirral's Green Belt.
30th July - 7pm - Bromborough Civic Centre
31st July - 7pm - Mayer Hall Bebington
Blaming the Government for Targets and "urging" Peel Holdings to build on Brownfield is not good enough. Why haven't they produced a Local Plan years ago like they should have done? ( It should have started 14 years ago) Why aren't they challenging unrealistic housing targets instead of just complaining about them?
Peel Holdings were given planning permission for over 13000 houses in 2010, more than enough to meet our target. Yet to date, 8 years later, no houses have been built at Wirral Waters, perhaps because they were given an astonishing 23 years on the original planning permission by the Council. What is the Council going to do about this?
Why are they not using all their powers, such as Compulsory Purchase Orders, to bring this land forward for development? It is not acceptable to say that CPOs are too difficult or too costly, or take too long. They have known for years about these housing targets and have wasted valuable time.
Remember that Wirral Council are still pushing ahead with plans to build Hoylake Golf Resort, including an estate of 160 Band H luxury houses, on Green Belt - they have been trying to do this since 2002, have spent well over £1million on Consultancy Fees already and are proposing to spend £17million of public money on the new roads for the golf resort. It seems money and time is no obstacle to the Councils wish for the Hoylake Golf Resort and Green Belt Housing Estate- so why have they not put the same effort and resource into making Brownfield Housing Developments happen?
Please challenge your Councillors and make sure they are aware that building on the precious Green Belt is unacceptable when such a large Brownfield Development site is on our doorstep.
Save the Green Belt - Once its gone, its gone forever!
