Save Dexter and other adventure playgrounds in Lambeth
The Issue
Dexter and other adventure playgrounds will be closing in October.
I am speaking on behalf of other parents like myself who use the adventure playground as it is a safe space for children and young people aged 6-16 to come and meet other children and create friendships with those who live and visit the community and take part in activity's such as arts and crafts (some sessions are delivered by local community providers), cooking, playing on structure and many more. All the activity's and play are supervised by fully trained friendly staff team.
Dexter adventure playground offers a service after school provision twice a week in term time and Saturday 11 am-4 pm, In the school holidays they offer a free service what runs from 10 am- 5 pm, 5 days a week. They also provide a cooked meal which is prepared on side for only £1.50 a day, and a very affordable tuck-shop.
Parents are very upset about the closer as it is the services holds so much wealth amongst our younger community members, and this appears to be the highlight of many younger community member’s holidays as they may not afford to do much due to low income, or for those working/single parents who cannot afford the childcare providers in the community.
As a parent of a child who attends Dexter, and has been attending for the past 3 years we would be so gutted and left in a vulnerable position if this provision is removed from our community.
Parents of Dexter adventure playground and I would welcome and really appreciate if you could take out the time to sign this petition so at least the decision makers can see what is being taken away from our community.
