You should not plant plane trees in busy pedestrian roads due to their potential for causing health issues and their large size, which can obstruct infrastructure and cause damage. Plane trees release fine hairs called trichomes that can irritate eyes, noses, and throats, and their large root and canopy systems can interfere with underground utilities and cause damage to footpaths and buildings. Planting plane trees next to building awnings can worsen pollen allergies, as wind-pollinated trees are a major trigger for asthma and hay fever. It is best to avoid wind-pollinated trees especially near homes or buildings. Choosing non-flowering or low-pollen plants can help reduce allergy symptoms in this setting, Asthma Australia suggests.
