Thank you for signing the petition. On 12 September, Members of the European Parliament will vote on their proposal for a Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market. Further delaying this crucial vote, or failing to find a common line, will leave no time for negotiations and final adoption of the Directive before the European elections. In other words, it will take another decade until we will see a change.
Therefore, on the occasion of the 75th Venice International Film Festival, 166 screenwriters and directors across Europe came together to make a last call on the European Parliament to adopt legislation that puts authors at the heart of copyright and of the European cultural and creative industries, including online. Many of the authors were signatories of the initial declaration that was the starting point of this petition in the beginning of the year. As the opposition (including big tech companies such as Google) are mobilising forcefully against the Copyright Directive, we need to continue showing the Parliament that we are numerous calling for the EU to improve the situation of screenwriters and directors. Every signatory counts. We therefore still need your support; help us reach 20,000 signatures by the 12th of September!
